He felt that others did not understand his autistic brain and so the idea for this book was born. The book features two young boys- Kahu, who has autism, and his friend Danny. Kahu tells Danny that he has autism and Danny proceeds to look for Kahu's autism. Kahu's response is "autism isn't something like a toy that you can touch with your hands...it's something you are born with." He then goes on to explain what having autism means and how it affects him. This book offers an explanation about autism that will be readily understood by other children and also good as an introduction to parents and teachers. It will also be useful to a newly diagnosed child. It has notes for parents and teachers as well as a bibliography. Where is autism? has wonderfully lively and colourful illustrations that are a great accompaniment to the text. A good book for 7-11 year olds.Item type | Current library | Collection | Call number | Copy number | Status | Date due | Barcode | Item holds | |

I certainly learned a lot from reading this book and the way it is written is positive, very pro-active and debunks myths that are around. Well researched, very easy to read for all ages and very useful. Equally I wish this book could be widely promoted to an array of people, support staff, families etc.

Used this book to open conversation about autism with a newly diagnosed boy of 9 years old, who had not yet been told of his diagnosis. Worked well for us.
