"Certified yoga instructor Jennifer Cohen Harper introduces Little Flower Yoga for Kids, a fun and unique program that combines yoga and mindfulness in an easy-to-read book. This program is designed especially for parents and kids, and is aimed at teaching children to pay attention, increase focus, and balance their emotions, all while building physical strength and flexibility. Based on a growing body of evidence that yoga and mindfulness practices can help children develop focus and concentration, the simple yoga exercises in this book can easily be integrated into their child's daily routine, ultimately improving health, behavior, and even school achievement." - TE PUNA
In her introduction the author makes the point that this books is not about a problem or a disorder. “The perspective of this book is that your child is a perfectly whole and healthy person, not that he [she] is somehow in need of fixing. All of us have aspects of life that are challenging... some of these challenges have names and some don’t. Whether your child has been diagnosed with a disorder is less important than if he has a supportive community... who are paying attention in a compassionate way to his [her] needs.”
The majority of this book is dedicated to practical activities within each of the five elements: Connect, Breathe, Move, Focus, Relax and should be absorbed in small pieces. The practices described can be integrated into family life over time, at a pace that feels enjoyable and sustainable.
Drawings illustrating some of the poses are attractive.
