The booklet is not meant to be used as a substitute for formal sex education or instead of talking informally about sex. Rather, it should be used as part of a commitment to provide ongoing support to people with their sexual lives. It may encourage questions and discussion and for some people highlight a need for further sex education. It is designed to be read by people with learning disabilities themselves, with staff support to provide explanations. However, it may also be of use to people who cannot necessarily read it themselves, but who could understand the basic messages, with help from staff.
