NOTE: Sex scenes & offensive language N2 - "Daniel is the first European with Down's syndrome to graduate from a university. He starts a social services job as an office worker and embarks on a romance with Laura, a neurotic but 'normal' co-worker, drawing the attention of both their co-workers and families. But these rebellious souls refuse to give in to the rules as they find friendship and love as they've never known." - DVD CASE; The lead actor in this movie, Pablo Pineda, plays the role of a university graduate with Down syndrome, which is quite similar to his real life, being the first European with Down syndrome to obtain a university degree. This movie, I'm thinking, will also be a first in more ways than one. The first foreign langauge movie in the IHC's collection (subtitled), possibly the first representation of a sexual relationship between an individual with Down syndrome and one "with 46 chromosomes", the expression (in Pablo's own words) of a requirement for an adult independent life. "The families are still scared of it, that people with Down syndrome become teachers, or that they are partners of their sons or daughters... I am tired of it, being the perpetual student, the child forever. Now my time has come to teach." This is a feature length movie which sustains interest throughout as well as being amusing, moving and a bit naughty. Loved it.
