"This evidence-based programme is designed to help young people on the autism spectrum to cope with the many challenges of adolescence. It encourages them to explore their identity, develop their friendships and to begin to think more about adult relationships, tackling the important related issues of puberty, sexuality, gender identity, body image, dress codes, self-care, safety and conventions for touching along the way. Designed to be used either as a 30-consecutive-session programme or to be dipped into as particular issues arise, it contains engaging lesson plans, supplementary activities, take-home tasks, group discussion points and over 200 cut-out-and-use flash cards." - PUBLISHER'S WEBSITE
This is a great book to use in group settings but is also a book that can be used by families as a discussion starter and for ideas for teens and their support crew.
It contains some tried and true strategies such as the circle of friends.
There are many photocopiable activity pages and the book includes pictures to help the visual learner and to reinforce the point being made.
This is a very practical, user friendly book that is not too wordy and will be a useful tool for those helping young people 11 years and over navigate the challenges of social living.

A useful resource for working with groups of adolescents/young adults. It would be the basis of a really nice programme to support the development of relationship skills and knowledge of puberty/safety. It would preceed sexuality education Some families may be able to adapt it for individual use.
