"Provides explanations for challenging behaviours, and offers a wealth of guidance on how families can manage different types of challenging behaviour, such as physical aggression and self-injury... Explores the difference between managing and changing behaviour; examines how our own behaviour can influence the situation; and shows how, by reducing stress and anxiety, children are better able to process information, becoming less likely to react in challenging ways. The pros and cons of medication and ways to look after your own health are also discussed." - BOOK JACKET

Great resource for helping the whole family. Strategies that come out of a philosophy of care and valuing the individual. A non-confrontational approach that requires the carers to focus on their own assumptions and beliefs. Not "soft"; long term effectiveness. I highly recommend this book.

This book will be very useful for families who have someone with ASD who is nonverbal or with limited speech like my six year old son.
