Publisher: Arlington, TX Future Horizons 2005Description: 52 p. : col. ill. ; 28 cm.ISBN: 1932565310.Subject(s): BEHAVIOUR PROBLEMS | CHILDREN | AUTISM | SIBLINGS | SIBLING RELATIONSHIPSSummary: Three year old Foster gives his perspective on his older brother Gavin. He explains some of the behaviours that others might find peculiar. Beautiful photographs illustrate Foster's text. The author provides a how-to section at the back, should others wish to create such a book for themselves.Review: A picture book all about the different behaviour patterns a sibling sees in his brother. Every double page spread has a photograph on one page with behavioural issues on the other. The photographs are delightfully candid and have captured Gavin in all his moods. The accompanying explanatory text is brief and the layout bold with double spacing. This is ideal for either group settings in kindergarten or primary school or for cosy one on ones within the family. Each explanation includes possible reasons for Gavin behaving the way he does, possible ways of reaching out to him and occasionally Foster’s feelings and reactions. On the whole this is a worthwhile tool for introducing children to Autism. There is one small negative observation and that is the choice of some words which would be beyond primary school aged children’s comprehension. A small amount of preparation should overcome this to a great extent.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode | Item holds | |
