Designed as a workbook for peers (with exercises to complete) but can be used as a tool for parents or professionals to explain the diagnosis to a child, sibling or friend. Aimed at primary school aged children who have reasonable level of understanding but you can easily simplify or abbreviate the content. Works through how people are different in general, what autism is, how a child with autism is different (with specifics about being sensitive to noise and touch, noticing detail, liking routine, playing differently, challenges talking and understanding others speech and body language), and how you can help. It really celebrates the being different and encourages understanding and acceptance. 5 stars

Not suitable for my needs but very suitable for older primary aged children when explaining and including a wider understanding of a peer with autism

Apologies for the late return of this book. We found it very useful - both from a teachers' viewpoint and to use selected parts with a class.

This is an awesome resource! Great for the Behaviour Support Team or others who are trying to explain ASD to groups of children or siblings etc or even other adults with disabilities. It's fun, respectful and valuing. I love it and am going to review it for our next ASD nesletter. Nic McKenzie

An extremely useful book to share with peers about Autism - written in everyday language suitable to help each child become aware of their own uniqueness and how to be a friend to someone with Autism

A book written for children - could be used as part of a programme for understanding children with special needs.

My non-autistic son really liked this book; my autistic son liked looking at the pictures

Not suitable for non-verbal young kids and their classmates, much more suited to 10-12 year olds
