Professor Baroness Hollins and her team have spent many years working with people with intellectual disabilities on sensitive issues to develop books like these. This book has been developed with the input of people with intellectual disability and with Diabetes UK.<br/>The pictures tell a story which can help a person with an intellectual disability understand what diabetes is, and how, with support, this condition can fit into their everyday life.<br/>After 24 pages of pictures there is a section of advice for family, carers and teachers covering, inter alia, causes, medication, blood testing, diet, exercise, injections and complications.<br/>And finally a section on “How to read” the book, advising carers to be very familiar with the pictures and text before introducing the book to someone who needs support to read it.<br/>Users should be aware that the “Useful Resource” section applies to the UK.<br/>So another great resource from this publisher. |
