Summary, etc. "This book tells the story of John, who has a learning disability and is dying. The pictures follow him in his illness and his final days. They are designed to help the reader make sense of what is happening to them or someone they know who is ill... As well as the pictures, a sample storyline is included, with additional background information including organisations that can help." - BOOK JACKET
520 1# - SUMMARY, ETC.
Review This is another of the books without words that Sheila Hollins has so successfully produced in the past. The format is the same, with the story told as a whole in picture form, ending with a series of questions and explanations to assist the carer or family member in their support of a person with learning disabilities.

This book focuses on the situation of John who is very ill, and eventually dies. His anxieties and those of his family and friends are considered. Hospital and doctor visits are discussed as well as his deterioration over time.

Finally Sheila Hollins provides additional information, including supportive networks and organizations, some of which are specific to England where the book has been published. Considering the potentially painful nature of terminal illness this is a sensitive and straightforward publication which will prove very useful for those in need of palliative care.
