"This book is designed for use by anyone who works with adults with learning disabilities. The activities included cover a range of subjects, but the main focus throughout is on communication and thinking... The exercises have all been tried and tested by staff and group members of 19 Plus and represent the outcome of a collaboration between us...Two CDs accompany the book, the PICTURES CD contains images to print out and use with activities in the book. The SOUNDS CD contains a sound game which accompanies a set of pictures, as well as three guided fantasies." - INTRODUCTION There has been a lot of thought and planning involved in the development of this resource as well as enjoyment as I suspect the 19 Plus group thoroughly tested each game before publication! Some of the games take me back to my childhood; find the ball under the cup and remembering all of the objects on the table. Others are totally new to me.
I particularly like the fact that all resources and supportive material are either home-made or readily available and that to a great extent the participants develop the resources themselves. This is all about involvement and taking responsibility for what we do. The other aspect worth noting is the way the aim of every game/exercise is clearly stated at the beginning, making it easy to select suitable games for particular areas of development.
There are games for developing memory, using the senses, expressing and understanding emotions, developing language, self awareness and confidence.....the list goes on.
The book is clearly illustrated throughout and there are two supporting CDs, one for sound and the other for pictures.
Useful for either small or large groups this resource is guaranteed to be able to supply activities that are manageable and rewarding for the group involved.
