Written by a doctor and a children's author, My Autism Book is designed to be read with your child as a simple introduction to their diagnosis and is tailored precisely to the needs and experiences of children with autism spectrum disorder aged 5 and up." - BOOK JACKETReview: This book, which is a great introduction to autism for the newly diagnosed child, has been written and illustrated with needs of the child uppermost. For example the illustrator avoids showing facial expressions that the child may have difficulty interpreting. It is a very honest and matter of fact look at some of the behaviours and characteristics that a child with autism may have. The author talks of them as strengths and differences in a very positive and encouraging tone that the child and parent will find reassuring. It is a book for sharing with other family members, friends, teachers and class mates to help them understand autism too.Item type | Current library | Collection | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode | Item holds | |

Designed for children with good language comprehension. Well illustrated. Describes some typical behaviours associated with ASD to help explain how it can affect people. Good info for parents on how they might introduce and use the book. Use positive strengths-focussed terminology.

I found this book really helpful. It helped my son realise other people understand and that there are symptoms he doesn't have. It also helped him identify more with ASD and how to function with it.
